The Dallas Morning News reported that library traffic has increased this year.
My first reaction is, "why do people still go to libraries when you've got the Internet?" Then the answer smacked me upside my large forehead as I looked through all the pictures featured in the article.
Almost every picture featured in the article showed people sitting at rows of computers.
Sure, the article credits the economy (like every other story coming out these days), but that's not it. More and more people need to use the computer, probably to get on the Internet, but these people don't have access at home.

Congrats to 'The Dark Knight' for breaking the one-day box office record, reaching $66.4 mil. on its opening day.
Let's not get carried away here: there's a lot more contributing to that broken record beyond the movie's apparent greatness. I mean, I'm not even that old, and I can remember when movies cost half as much as they do today. Which means 25 years ago, the Dark Night would've only generated $33 mil. from the same amount of people.
Let's start leveling the playing field. Give me the number of tickets purchased per theater, regardless of price. Anybody got that stat handy?

A poll recently confirmed what has been blatantly obvious for at least the last six months: McCain is boring, and Obama gets people pumped up.
The article details a recent poll showing "that 38% of Obama's supporters say the election is exciting compared with 9% of McCain's."
I'm a reluctant McCain supporter that falls into the 91% that wouldn't consider the election exciting. At least not yet. And that's why I think Obama will actually end up winning. I can't bring myself to vote for Obama, but I'm not particularly thrilled to vote for McCain. I think a lot of people feel exactly the same as I do, and enough of that indifference is gonna lead to a low showing of McCain supporters at the polls in November.

I'm so sick of stud athletes retiring and then unretiring.
Roger Clemens has done it a few times. Michael Jordan did it. Now Brett Favre. I understand that these guys might still have something to offer. But I hate, HATE that these athletes I've looked up to all my life are now acting like fickle women.
If you're going to call the press conference, shed the tears and quote that it's time to spend more time with your family, then have the balls to back it up. Or at least the forethought to not do it at all if you know you really don't want to.

A couple weeks ago, my wife and I saw Iron Man. Granted, the main reason we were going was so I could check and see if my company's commercial was airing as promised, so the movie selection was simply secondary. I was not expecting much out of this movie - just a couple hours of brainless sitting to come in from the heat.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The Dallas Morning News posted this article, Mexicans leaving under duress, in Saturday's paper. It's an excellent read, and points out a possible benefit of the economy being down.
No, I'm not saying I want all the Mexicans to hit the road. I am saying that an economic setback has a way of taking care of issues that we otherwise didn't know how to take care of. Face it: America knows illegal immigration is a huge issue (before the economy took its huge dip, illegal immigration and the war were the two hot topics for the presidential hopefuls). The problem is that America has no idea how to solve it, and probably never will come up with a good way of solving it.
